I really enjoyed making this little wren perched on a branch! The style is very expressive, you can really see how I formed the little bird with my hands. An Autumn/ fall beech leaf has fallen beside the branch, resting delicately where it landed.
This sculpture is coloured all over with an antique bronze like effect, but when I look at the leaf, I can see the beautiful Autumn/ fall colour ! There is a small snail shell, at the bottom of the gnarled , and partially hollow little branch.
This was coloured with a base underglaze, then high fired to stoneware temperature, giving a slight sheen. Then coloured with a verdigris coloured underglaze, that was then partially wiped off, and fired to a lower, bisque temperature, to highlight the texture, and get the feeling of a weathered and dulled bronze antique.
