I have been having great fun recently working on some bird sculptures in various styles and using different techniques. They range from more or less realistic to complete fantasy! Here are a few in various stages of production:

Some of my sculptures will be on show in The Stables Gallery at Hall Place alongside the work around 40 other ceramic artists. I will be there on 1st and 20th June and lots of us will be there between 12 pm and 2 pm on Saturday 27th May.
It’s a great place to visit and easy to access. As well as the gallery there is a lovely garden, parkland (all free entry) and a riverside cafe, historic house and some other attractions. Find out more here:

The dog series continues in various styles from stylized to more realistic, and with a range of glazed finishes but with each capturing the character of the breed.

The pig can be displayed inside or out.
Ellen has been busy recently making many different breeds of dogs as well as several horses. More images and details can be seen in the Ceramic section. There are also some new work in the Paintings section.

Ellen is one of the artists exhibiting at Wyndcliffe Court Sculpture Garden in their Summer Show which opens on July 1st.
This cat sculpture grew from a shape suggested by the lump of clay when waiting for inspiration and is one of her favourite pieces. There is also a bronze resin version.
This poised figure in bronze resin looks elegant from every angle.
Last year’s calf now has a companion! This Holstein-Friesian cow was sculpted on the same farm in Devon.
At a different farm, this time in Cumbria, the farm collie was always looking for action.
The Crow, English Pointer, Airedale and Dairy Calf will also be on show again this year. The calf and English Pointer are now available in bronze as well as bronze resin
Hens and roosters have been popular subjects for Ellen stemming from the time when we had quite a variety in our garden.
This is Ellen with our fierce rooster.
This little rooster is less of a threat….
….and this hen is worried you have spotted her dust-bathing in the flowerbed!
This crow has something to say to you! The polished slate resin is perfect for the glossy black plumage. (Details on ‘Bronze Resin Sculptures’ page.)
Here is a very different interpretation of the crow in subtle watercolour.
Do you ever hear a rustling in the undergrowth and turn to see a shiny eye looking at you? Here is the ‘Blackbird’ turning over the leaves in the autumn wood. The detail is beautiful.
Each giclee print has a quality mount each with unique artwork. It is also available ready framed or as a greeting card. (Details on ‘Paintings’ page.)
And lastly here is ‘Raven.’
A very different palette here, he looks majestic in shades of grey and black.
Ellen has always had a very special love for dogs. She has watched and admired them over the years and this enables her to give real character to her interpretations of different breeds.
This laid back English Pointer, in bronze resin, has proved very popular among owners and breeders. A bronze version may be available soon.
As for this ugly little pug…
…he has character, but I’m not sure it’s all good!
But he looks ready for a game….
…as does this Airedale.
